I Dig the Cinema But…

Posted by – December 7, 2008

I dig the cinema (yeah I make movies duh!) but it seems 95% of what I watch is with headphones and a laptop. Insert words of wisdom: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKiIroiCvZ0&feature=related
I’d like to think about how this film will be presented. The experience of watching it. Another project I’m excited about right now, which I haven’t yet experienced for myself but can’t wait to catch when it comes to TO in February (yeah of course it has bikes, but more than that the live music, texture of the images…):

And lastly I’m a little jealous of this (it’s been a while since Wink World):

The Phantom of Liberty (1974)

Flick suggested this to me after seeing Infest Wisely as having a disjointed (though disjointed in a different way) story structure. This scene made me think of the minorly alternate universes idea.

I found the movie engaging on a “how will he shock us next” kind of way, but it feels more like a comedy sketch or music video, lacking any emotive power.

They Live (1988)

The x-ray specs device is perfect for lofi scifi — super-striking and cinematic.

The movie is pretty entertaining, and like most Carpenter stuff goes between smart and stupid in the same movie. There’s some smart stuff near the end with some dialogue that says that to the aliens, Earth is third world — a concept I’ve always thought about teasing out.
